Different people get married for different reasons at different ages. Each kin has different stats behind them, and that affects their chances of marriage. Some are actually "ugly," but you don't see it because it's a text game. Some people marry in old age, because they hold the place. Stature plays a huge role in who gets married.
When the pile is full, please allow us to to tinker/work on a a banjo/rifle AND save the game to the smokehouse AND put the roots down the cellar.
Please male the ACTIVE pile management consistent: it can easily becom e very frustrating, especially while working ona character with high stats (boosted: 12 STOUT, 14 SLK, 10 ORN), coworking with wankers (5 max STO, SLK, ORN).
I'll see how it works. the thing is, when you take things off the pile, it is no longer a full pile, so that's why you only get one choice. Usually, wait a minute, and it's full again because not too much was taken off. But I will take a look to see if it can be balanced better.
AD 1945 and none of my 6 disposable 16-40 old *chair à canon* men has been asked to join the troops, even tangentially (working for the war/mining/oil industry should be enough).
Were the Appalachian counties historically protected (H Ford could have done that) or is the AI messing with History?
It's just dumb luck. The percentages are built into the game. The 1942 Tydings Amendment deferred men doing essential farm work, and coal miners were deferred as war-essential too, so a farming or mining hollow really did keep a lot of its men home. Appalachian counties had no blanket protection.
alright. Appreciate the screenshot. I’m at my 9 to 5 right now, but I’ll work on it tonight. Sorry about the bug, but I appreciate the feedback. Try full screen, and see if that helps in the mean time.
I was able to push a patch. Try it now. Let me know. And if you like the game, please make comments and rate. Thank you for trying it! I truly appreciate you taking the time.
Thanks for the patch! That's fixed the money visibility, but now everything displays in one long scrollable column rather than two. Really enjoying so far tho!
Yes... and some weird too: I've closed my 2nd book in 1984 - by 1975, ALL the adult women had left to Ohio ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ something to do with the Women's Liberation Movement?
Ha. Ohio is real, though. From about 1910 to 1960 millions of people left the coalfields for factory work up north: rubber in Akron, Dayton, Cincinnati, the car plants in Detroit and Flint. The mines were laying off, the plants were hiring, and once somebody had a job up there they sent for their kin. Folks said the schools taught readin', writin', and Route 23. Every women gone by 1975 is a stranger result than the history, though. I'll look at why the book sent the women and not the men.

Kinfolks marry young. ;
So the chances of my 30 yr old getting married are thin? He also went off to war then I had 3 kinfolk from somewhere else join & the oldest is 28.

OId Man Dawg, I'm addicted xD Can't wait to experience where you'll gonna lead us (currently tasting/testing https://cerbion.itch.io/ensis-idle too).
While you're at it, try something different of mine - Disco Tanks. https://mdawg74.itch.io/disco-tanks
Sadly, not for me: even if I suppose the photosensive persons like me can turn off the concerned visual effects, my fingers aren't agile enough.
This is why I enjoy semi-contemplative games like this one.
Congrats for your Jam results!
TYVM!
YTMW!
The new Barn with all these pieces and hubcaps is a nice touch.
Couldn't sleep, was wandering. Don't we need a dulcimer too?
(stories from the Appalachians, was like a kid listening to them:dulcimer is a great add. a lot of things coming.... about to push an update in the next ten minutes or so.

That"s what I do, but it often happens that the pile just empties itself without giving me any choice.

Thanks for the precicion!
RIP to the hardest working member of my family 🫡
It happens… 🤷🏽♂️😂
For some reason, it made me reread Faulkner's "Sanctuary".

edit: Have you ever read Nick Cave's "And the Ass Saw the Angel"?

edit 2: having a blast. Trying to push a "banjo bards" family, currently lead by
Ma Garnet wearing her famous Sunday Mule-Hide Fascinator.
Thank you very much for this game!
I could see Faulkner in the game. Haven’t read that Cave book.
I'm not able to see the family's money in the top right, it's usually cut in half and completely obscured when an event with a choice pops up
I’ll get to work on it. Any chance you can screen shot what you’re seeing?
I'm having the same problem too - screenshot below shows the content blocking it, and no scrolling reveals it

Yup.

Thanks again for your lights. And the much appreciated links to Wikipedia & appalachian-english.library.sc.edu!
Side note: I'm not from your country, nor is English my native language therefore my wording may sound weird.
